Tonight's Story

Tonight is special. We have entered the last ten nights of Ramadan — the most powerful nights of the whole year. The Prophet ﷺ would work even harder during these nights, and he asked his family to do the same. These are the nights to hold on tight. And tonight's story is about a woman who never, ever let go.

Her name was Sumayyah. She lived in Makkah, and she was one of the very first people to believe in Islam — along with her husband Yasir and her son Ammar. They were a simple family. Not rich. Not powerful. But they believed with their whole hearts.

The leaders of Makkah were angry. They wanted Sumayyah and her family to give up their faith. They threatened them. They hurt them. They tried everything to make them say, "We don't believe anymore."

But Sumayyah refused. She stood firm. She would not say a single word against her faith. Not one word. Even when things became terribly hard, she held onto her belief in Allah with everything she had.

Sumayyah became the first person in Islam to give her life for her faith. She wasn't a warrior. She wasn't a king. She was a mother who simply refused to let go of what she knew was true.

The Prophet ﷺ promised Sumayyah's family that they would be in Paradise. Her courage reminds us that faith isn't always easy — but it's always worth holding onto. Especially now, in these last ten nights, when Ramadan is asking us to push just a little bit harder.

Dua of the Night: Dua for Strength

رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا

Rabbana la tuzigh quloobana ba'da idh hadaytana

"Our Lord, do not let our hearts go astray after You have guided us"

Sumayyah held onto her faith when it was harder than we can imagine. This Quranic dua asks Allah to keep our hearts firm and guided. During these last ten nights, we ask Allah to keep us strong until the end.
