Tonight's Story
What's your favourite part of iftar? Is it the dates? The warm soup? The sound of everyone saying "Bismillah" at the same time? Iftar is one of the most magical moments of Ramadan — and it was just as special in the time of the Prophet ﷺ.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would break his fast with something simple — a few dates and some water. That's it. He didn't need a huge feast. He would say a short dua and eat with gratitude, thankful for every bite.
But here's what made the Prophet's iftar truly special: he never ate alone if he could help it. He would invite others — especially people who had very little. His table was always open. No one was ever turned away.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever feeds a person who is fasting will have the same reward as the fasting person, without reducing the fasting person's reward at all." That means if you share your iftar with someone, you get the reward of their whole fast!
Imagine that — a simple plate of food, shared with kindness, can earn you the reward of an entire day of fasting. That's how much Allah loves it when we share.
Tonight, when you sit down for iftar, look around at the people with you. That table — with the dates, the water, the love — is one of the greatest blessings of Ramadan. And if you can share it with just one more person, you've made it even more beautiful.
Dua of the Night: Dua Before Breaking the Fast
ذَهَبَ الظَّمَأُ وَابْتَلَّتِ الْعُرُوقُ
Dhahaba adh-dhama'u wab-tallatil-'uruqu
"The thirst is gone, the veins are moistened, and the reward is confirmed"
The Prophet ﷺ would say these words when breaking his fast. It's a moment of gratitude — thanking Allah that the fast is over and the reward is with Him. Try saying it tonight at iftar!
