Why We Love Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

The Story

At the mosque, Noah heard one name again and again.

Muhammad ﷺ.

Every time, the families around him whispered the same little prayer.

“Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa Aali Muhammad.”

On the way home Noah looked up at Safia.

“Why does everybody love him so much?”

Safia smiled. She loved that question.

More than fourteen hundred years ago, a baby was born in Makkah. His mother was Aminah. He was named Muhammad.

His father had died before he was born. Muhammad ﷺ grew up an orphan, and Allah never left him.

He told the truth and kept his promises. Makkah called him al-Amin, the trustworthy one.

When he was older, Muhammad ﷺ would go alone to a cave called Hira to worship Allah.

There the angel Jibril came with the first words of the Qur’an.

Allah had chosen Muhammad ﷺ as His final prophet. His wife Khadija believed him at once.

He told people to worship Allah alone, tell the truth, feed the hungry and care for orphans.

But powerful men in Makkah would not change. They mocked the Muslims and hurt them until they had to leave.

They travelled across the desert to a city called Madinah and made a new home.

Years passed. Then Muhammad ﷺ came back to Makkah.

Thousands of Muslims walked beside him. Makkah could not stop him. The people who had hurt him waited behind their doors, afraid.

He could have punished them.

Instead he forgave them, and told them they were free to go.

Noah’s mouth fell open. “He forgave them? After everything?”

“He did,” said Safia. “Truthful when it was hard. Forgiving when he did not have to be.”

Noah thought about the mosque and all those whispering families.

Now he knew why.

“Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa Aali Muhammad,” he whispered. 💛

Dua of the Week: Salawat — The Little Prayer for the Prophet ﷺ

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّد

Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa Aali Muhammad

"O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad."

The little prayer Noah heard all around him at the mosque is called salawat. The Prophet ﷺ taught Muslims how to send blessings upon him and his family, and Muslims often say salawat when they hear his name.
