The Prophet Who Smiled
Week 4 • Prophet Muhammad ﷺ • Madinah
The Story
You might expect the Messenger of Allah to be serious. Quiet. Stern. But he was known for something unexpected — his warmth and constant smile. 'I never saw anyone who smiled like the Messenger of Allah,' a friend once said. He smiled through hardship. He smiled when he was tired. His smile changed the room.
One day the Prophet ﷺ said something surprising: 'Smiling at someone is charity.' But smiling doesn't cost anything! his friends wondered. 'That's exactly why,' he said. 'Anyone can give it. And it can change someone's whole day.'
One day an old woman asked him: 'Will I go to Jannah? I'm so old.' The Prophet ﷺ smiled gently. 'There are no old women in Jannah!' She started to cry — she thought she wouldn't be allowed in. But he laughed softly: 'Don't worry. Allah will make you young again — young enough to walk through Jannah's gardens.'
The Prophet ﷺ loved to joke with his friends. One asked: 'Give me a camel to ride!' He answered seriously: 'I will give you… the child of a camel.' 'What would I do with a baby camel?' the friend asked. The Prophet ﷺ burst out laughing. 'Every camel is the child of a camel!'
Children loved him. And he loved them right back. When kids ran to him, he stopped what he was doing. He listened to their stories. He gave them nicknames. He played with them. 'Whoever doesn't show mercy to our young,' he said, 'is not one of us.'
Being Muslim isn't about being serious all the time. Smiling is a gift. Gentle humor is beautiful. Warmth with your family is part of his sunnah. If the best human who ever walked the earth smiled that much — then we should too.
Dua of the Week: Dua for a Peaceful Heart
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ قَلْبًا سَلِيمًا
Allahumma inni as'aluka qalban saleema
"O Allah, I ask You for a sound and peaceful heart."
The Prophet ﷺ had a heart full of joy, peace, and kindness. We can ask Allah for a heart like that — a heart that smiles easily, forgives quickly, and finds happiness in small moments.
Quran Verse: Surah An-Najm 53:43
وَأَنَّهُۥ هُوَ أَضْحَكَ وَأَبْكَىٰ
"And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep."
Family Discussion
The Prophet ﷺ smiled at everyone — family, friends, even strangers. Who in your life smiles the most? How does it make you feel? Who can YOU smile at today?
Good Deed Challenge
This week, give seven smiles — one for each day. Smile at someone in your family. Smile at someone at school. Smile at a stranger. Smile at the cashier at a store. Watch what happens.
