The House Prophet Ibrahim Built

The Story

During Hajj, millions travel to Makkah from all over the world. They dress in white and walk around the Kaabah — a stone building wrapped in black cloth. The same ritual, every year, for thousands of years. It started with one man, alone in a desert.

Allah told Ibrahim to build a house — a place where people from all over the world could come to remember Him. The place was a quiet valley called Makkah. Ibrahim went there with his son Ismail. The valley was quiet. But not for long.

They carried stones from the hills, building the walls higher and higher. With every stone they placed, they stopped and prayed — asking Allah to accept their work. They were not building to impress people. They were building for Allah.

When the Kaabah was finished, Allah gave Ibrahim one more task — go to the highest ground and invite people from everywhere on earth to come to this house. Ibrahim did not know how — but he trusted Allah, and he called.

Allah carried Ibrahim's call far beyond that valley — across the whole world. And Muslims have been answering it ever since. Their answer is Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk — 'Here I am, O Allah, here I am.' Pilgrims call those words out loud every Hajj.

The Kaabah is still standing — the same house, in the same place, with the Black Stone in its corner. Every Hajj, millions travel from all over the world to walk around it. They are answering Ibrahim's call. Maybe one day, you will too.

Dua of the Week: The Dua of Ibrahim ﷺ & Ismail ﷺ

رَبَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

Rabbana taqabbal minna innaka antas-Samee'ul Aleem

"Our Lord, accept this from us. Indeed, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing."

The words Ibrahim and Ismail said while building the Kaabah — recorded in the Quran (Al-Baqarah 2:127). When you do something good — homework, helping at home — say these same words. You are asking Allah to accept it, just as they did.

Quran Verse: Surah Al-Hajj 22:27

وَأَذِّن فِي النَّاسِ بِالْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجَالًا وَعَلَىٰ كُلِّ ضَامِرٍ يَأْتِينَ مِن كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ

"And announce to the people the Hajj; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass."

This week, say 'Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk' together as a family — the same words pilgrims say during Hajj. You don't need to be at Hajj to remember what it means: 'Here I am, O Allah.'
