The Day Everyone Was Fed

The Story

In Madinah, there was a man with no home and no family — one of many poor men who slept on a shaded porch behind the mosque. That day, he was painfully hungry. He sat outside the mosque, too weak to do anything but wait — hoping someone would notice him. That day, the Prophet ﷺ noticed.

Someone had brought a bowl of milk to the Prophet ﷺ as a gift. The Prophet ﷺ called the man over. The man came forward, hoping — finally, food. He was so hungry he could finish that whole bowl in three sips. But the Prophet ﷺ said something he did not expect.

'Go,' said the Prophet ﷺ. 'Call the People of the Porch.' The man froze. There were many men on the porch. Hungry men, like him. The bowl looked far too small to feed them all. How could it possibly be enough? But he obeyed.

He returned with the People of the Porch. They sat with the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ told him to serve them. So he carried the bowl to the first man. The man drank until his thirst was gone and his stomach was full — and passed it back.

He carried the bowl from man to man. Every man drank until he was full. When the last man finished, he looked into the bowl. It was still full. Then the Prophet ﷺ told him to drink. He drank until he was full too. And finally — the Prophet ﷺ drank.

That day, the People of the Porch saw something they would never forget. When Allah places barakah in something, a little can become enough for many. And sometimes, the smallest bowl can carry the greatest mercy.

Dua of the Week: Dua for Barakah in What We Have

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيمَا رَزَقْتَنَا

Allahumma barik lana fima razaqtana

"O Allah, place barakah in what You have provided for us."

Barakah is when Allah makes a little become a lot. The Prophet ﷺ taught us to ask Allah for it — and that's what turned one small bowl into a meal for many.

Quran Verse: Surah Saba 34:39

وَمَا أَنفَقْتُم مِّن شَيْءٍ فَهُوَ يُخْلِفُهُ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِينَ

"Whatever you spend [in good], He will replace it. And He is the best of providers."
