How the Bee Knows the Way

The Story

The sun is just waking up. A tiny bee leaves her hive and zooms into the morning sky. The flowers may be far away, past the trees and over the hills. She has no map and no signs to follow. So how does she know where to go?

More than 1,400 years ago, Allah revealed verses about the bee to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. They are found in Surah An-Nahl. An-Nahl means The Bee. Allah tells us that He inspired the bee and gave her the guidance she needs.

Allah taught the bee where to build her home and where to find food. He made her paths easy to follow. Even a tiny bee knows what to do because Allah created her that way.

The bee flies from flower to flower, collecting nectar and pollen. When she finds a good place for food, she returns to the hive and performs a special dance. The other bees watch her movements to learn which way to fly and how far to go. What looks like a tiny dance is another sign of Allah's amazing design.

Inside the hive, the bees build thousands of wax rooms. Most have six sides that fit closely together. The bees store food inside them and care for their young there too. Allah taught a tiny creature to build with order, care, and skill.

From the bee comes sweet honey in many colours. The Qur'an says: "In it is healing for people." Honey is one of Allah's special gifts. When you taste it, say Bismillah and remember the tiny bee Allah taught.

Dua of the Week: Bismillah — the Dua Before Eating

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Raheem

"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful."

The words we say before we eat — they turn even a spoonful of honey into remembering Allah, the Most Merciful, who taught the bee.

Quran Verse: Surah An-Nahl 16:68

وَأَوْحَىٰ رَبُّكَ إِلَى النَّحْلِ

"And your Lord inspired the bee…"
